Bonus tip and the best Cinnamon Rolls recipe at the end!😋

1. Simmer Pots – The Easiest Way to Make Your Home Smell Like Christmas

If there’s one scent trick that never fails during the holidays, it’s the classic simmer pot.
You just fill a small pot with water, toss in your favorite festive ingredients, and let it gently simmer on the stove. Within minutes, your whole home smells like Christmas morning.

How to Make a Simmer Pot:

  1. Fill a small saucepan halfway with water.

  2. Add a few slices of orange or apple.

  3. Sprinkle in 2–3 cinnamon sticks, a few cloves, and maybe a sprig of rosemary or pine.

  4. Let it simmer on low heat — add more water as needed.

My Favorite Christmas Simmer Pot Combos:

  • Classic Christmas: Orange + Cinnamon + Cloves + Pine

  • Sweet & Cozy: Apple + Vanilla Extract + Star Anise + Nutmeg

  • Fresh Winter Forest: Lemon + Eucalyptus + Rosemary + Pine Needles

This trick is pure magic for hosting guests or cozy winter evenings. It makes your home smell amazing — and it looks beautiful simmering on the stove too.

2. Essential Oils & Diffusers – Natural Scents That Last All Day

If you want a scent that lasts longer without keeping the stove on, essential oils are your best friend.
A diffuser gently releases natural oils into the air, making your home smell like a holiday spa.

How to Use Essential Oils for Christmas:

Add water to your diffuser and blend 3–4 oils that remind you of the season.

Try these cozy blends:

  • Warm Cinnamon Glow: 3 drops cinnamon, 3 drops orange, 2 drops vanilla

  • Pine Forest Walk: 4 drops pine, 2 drops cedarwood, 2 drops clove

  • Sweet Holiday Treat: 3 drops peppermint, 3 drops vanilla, 2 drops orange

💡 Tip: You can also make your own “Christmas blend” by adding a few drops to cotton balls and hiding them in wreaths or near your entryway.

These scents feel natural, last for hours, and instantly create that festive, comforting mood.

3. Natural Candles – The Glow and the Scent of Christmas

Candles are the ultimate cozy essential — they add both warm light and holiday fragrance.
Choose natural soy or beeswax candles, since they burn cleaner and blend beautifully with essential oils.

Look for or make candles with notes like:

  • Cinnamon & Vanilla

  • Orange & Clove

  • Pine & Cedarwood

  • Apple & Nutmeg

If you’re feeling creative, you can even make your own Christmas candles:

  • Melt soy wax flakes.

  • Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils.

  • Pour into a small glass jar or ceramic cup.

  • Add a piece of dried orange or a cinnamon stick on top for a rustic touch.

💡 Cozy styling idea: Place a few candles on your bedside table, coffee table, or kitchen counter to spread a soft, inviting glow. Combine them with warm-toned bulbs (2700K–3000K) for that golden, relaxing light that enhances every scent in the room.

4. Dried Citrus, Herbs & Pine Cones – Natural Air Fresheners That Double as Decor

Dried fruits and herbs are an old-fashioned yet elegant way to scent your home — and they look stunning as part of your Christmas decor.

How to Make Dried Orange Slices:

  1. Slice oranges about ½ cm thick.

  2. Lay them on parchment paper.

  3. Bake at a very low temperature (about 90°C / 200°F) for 2–3 hours, flipping halfway.

  4. Let them cool completely.

You can use these dried slices in garlands, wreaths, table centerpieces, or simply place them in a glass jar with cinnamon sticks and star anise. They’ll add a gentle, sweet-spicy scent that feels festive but never overwhelming.

💡 Bonus tip: Mix dried citrus slices with pine cones and a few drops of essential oil — like pine, orange, or clove — for a natural potpourri that lasts for weeks.

For an even cozier touch, add a small fairy light string into a glass jar filled with these ingredients. The warm light enhances both the scent and the look, turning it into an enchanting little Christmas accent.

5. Natural Room Spray – Your DIY Christmas Air Freshener

If you love that instant “fresh and festive” scent, make your own natural room spray. It’s quick, customizable, and chemical-free.

DIY Christmas Room Spray Recipe:

  • ½ cup distilled water

  • 2 tablespoons vodka or witch hazel

  • 10 drops orange essential oil

  • 8 drops pine essential oil

  • 5 drops cinnamon essential oil

Mix the ingredients in a glass spray bottle and shake before each use. Spray it on linens, curtains, or even your sofa for an instant Christmas refresh.

It’s also a lovely homemade gift — just add a simple label and tie a piece of twine around the neck.

7. Bonus Tip – Bake Something Delicious

Even though we focused on natural scent methods, there’s one “secret weapon” that beats them all: baking.
Whether it’s gingerbread cookies, cinnamon rolls, or a batch of spiced muffins — that aroma fills your home with pure comfort.

If you’re hosting, bake right before guests arrive. The scent of something warm and sweet in the oven is the most welcoming Christmas fragrance of all.

Cinnamon Rolls

Dough:
Mix 1 cup (5 dl) warm milk with 1/2 cup (1.2 dl) melted butter and 1/2 cup (10 dkg) sugar, and activate 20 g yeast in the mixture for 5–10 minutes.

Add the mixture to 4 cups (56 dkg) white flour, and mix until mostly smooth.

Let it rest for 1 hour — it should double in size!

After 1 hour, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon baking powder and 2 teaspoons salt.

Add 3/4 cup (12 dkg) of flour (or as much as needed to make a smooth dough), and knead until the dough is smooth.

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) thick into a rectangle.

Filling:
Mix 3/4 cup (15 dkg) soft butter, 3/4 cup (12 dkg) brown sugar, and 0.5 oz (15 g) cinnamon.

Spread the filling evenly over the dough.

Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.

Cut into rolls about 0.8 inch (2 cm) thick, and place them in a buttered baking pan, leaving some space between them because they will rise in the oven.

Let them rest for 20–30 more minutes.

Bake at 350 °F (180 °C) for 30 minutes.

Mix 1/2 cup (1 dl) milk with 2 tbsp (25 g) vanilla sugar, pour it evenly over the rolls, and bake for 3 more minutes.

Glaze:
Mix 1/2 cup (120 g) soft cream cheese with 3/4 cup (90 g) powdered sugar and 1 tbsp vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth. Spread it on top of the still-hot rolls.
